Role and Responsibilities

As a Family Support Specialist at Kimwell Nursing Home, you will play a crucial role in supporting our residents and their families. Your primary responsibilities will include:

1. Emotional Support

Offering emotional support to residents and their families during times of transition, adjustment, or crisis. Providing a compassionate and empathetic ear to their concerns, and guiding them through the challenges that come with aging or illness.

2. Coordination of Care

Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to develop comprehensive care plans that meet the physical, emotional, and social needs of our residents. Maintaining open communication with healthcare providers, ensuring seamless coordination of services.

3. Advocacy

Advocating for the rights and preferences of residents and their families. Assisting them in navigating the complex healthcare system and ensuring their voice is heard, respected, and incorporated into decision-making processes.

4. Education and Resources

Providing education and resources to residents and their families on topics such as aging, disease management, and available support services. Empowering them to make informed decisions and enhance their overall quality of life.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in a similar role, preferably in a geriatric or aging care setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Empathy and compassion towards the elderly population.
